Genie Davis: A Reason to Get Up in The Morning

Written By: Genie Davis (Holy Trinity member)

I have been part of Holy Trinity’s congregation since 1964.

When I first began attending Holy Trinity, I had just welcomed my fifth child into the world and was grappling with raising my children in a big city. I grew up in a small town and felt that I needed a close-knit community to ground myself in. Although I did attend college at George Washington University and therefore was familiar with the big city feel of Northern Virginia, I felt that joining a church could offer the sense of community I was looking for. Coincidentally, my children’s babysitter attended Holy Trinity and spoke highly of it. To make matters even better, the church was only five minutes from my home!

I immediately felt that Holy Trinity was a vibrant place with delightful and interesting people, and great music. I declared then that it fit the bill and now I can attest that it has always felt like home.

Over the past 60 years, I have had a very full and satisfying experience at Holy Trinity. I’ve been part of the bell choir, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and participated in many of the ministries supporting the local community.

My children have also grown up within the Holy Trinity community. This is where they had communion, were confirmed, were baptized, and even celebrated their weddings.

As for a favorite memory, there are too many to name. I have found something wonderful while participating in so much of the life of the church. I am especially fond of the music, education, women of the church, and the precious friends I’ve made. Now that my five children are adults, Holy Trinity offers a sense of purpose and a good reason to get up in the morning.

To me, the leadership and Pastor set Holy Trinity apart from the other local churches. This congregation brings out the leadership qualities in those who join, and ultimately encourages everyone to be their best self. Today, my favorite part of Holy Trinity is the congregation.

I am so proud of the way Holy Trinity has impacted the local community and beyond. I have memories of fixing people’s homes, sponsoring refugee families as they resettled in Northern Virginia, witnessing the organization of numerous drives for a good cause, and the Hypothermia Prevention Program.

Holy Trinity has been a special and satisfying part of my life. I am thankful for the good luck that brought me to Holy Trinity and would recommend to anyone that they join the congregation.
