Luther Jackson MIDDLE School: 70TH ANNIVERSARY

Luther Jackson High School was Fairfax County’s first high school for Blacks. Ten years after it opened, it was converted to an integrated middle school. This year, it celebrates its 70th anniversary with various events, guests, and activities including a living wax museum, musical performances, and more! Read more here.

Luther Jackson High School (Local Segregation)

During the era of segregated public schools in Fairfax County, Luther Jackson High School served as the first, and only, high school in the county for African-American children. Alumni of Luther Jackson High School share their memories of the school, its teachers, and student life.

Historic Records: Falls Church District

Founded in 1870, the Falls Church Magisterial District encompassed the communities of Annandale, Bailey’s Crossroads, Fort Ward, Lincolnia (Lebanon), Merrifield, Mount Pleasant, Seminary, and West End (Alexandria).
