Patricia Deege
I grew up in England and always had the desire to somehow preserve, for my own pleasure, the beauty of nature. As a child, I tried watercolor painting with only moderate success, and found that a camera provided a better way to record my memories. My serious “photographic journey” began in the spring of 1995 when I attended a weekend seminar by a professional photography couple, and the pure poetry of their images inspired me to try and learn everything I could about the mysteries of the camera and the fascinating art of creating images that “speak” to the heart.
I am a member of several camera clubs in the Washington area, and participate regularly in exhibits and competitions, where I have been fortunate to sell some of my work and win many awards. I have had photographs published in the International Library of Photography, several magazines such as Shutterbug and Outdoor Photographer, and in many camera club newsletters and websites. Participation in photographic workshops and seminars, -reading, -and observing the work of other photographers from many walks of life, -has provided me with a vast well of information and experience. I rarely leave the house without my camera and often find opportunities to photograph in somewhat unexpected places. For the past few years, I have embraced the world of the digital camera and have enjoyed the additional capabilities that it offers with all its new and exciting technology.
I am interested in all aspects of photography, but my first love has always been nature. There is something very special about those early mornings of soft light and dewy landscapes, and the golden hues of late afternoon as the sun is sinking towards the horizon. From my place behind the lens, I have learned to see so much more in this wonderful world of ours, to notice things that many people pass by every day and are not even aware of. The camera has opened up a fascinating new arena of sights and experiences and my life has thus been greatly enriched. . If I can impart that fascination to just a few other people, when they look at one of my photographs and feel their hearts gladden and their spirits uplifted, then all my efforts will have been worthwhile.
