Jodi Condes
I try to capture the feelings of light-filled moments in special places that, to the viewer, feel familiar to their heart, even if they may never have been there before. I want the viewer to feel invited into the painting - that they can stroll in that garden, walk down that lane, sit by that sea, or reach out to that flower.
I am self-taught, discovering only late in life the amazing feeling of putting brush to canvas and being surprised by the result – where had art been all my life? I now absorb everything I can from books, classes, other artists, art museums, and painting daily. I work primarily in acrylics, and especially love to paint middle-distance landscapes like gardens. I am inspired by my travels as well as by places close to home, even my own backyard. All it takes is for beautiful light to fall in just such a way, and I want to paint it. My technique and subject matter are ever-evolving as I continuously experiment.
I have lived in Vienna, Virginia, for over 30 years. I currently serve as Vice President of the Vienna Arts Society (VAS), and I regularly exhibit and sell my work in many of VAS shows, and find much inspiration from my contact with other artist members. My work has been accepted into, and sold at, juried shows in Northern Virginia and Clarke County, where I have won several Honorable Mentions. I have painted several commissions, and my work is in private collections in the US and Italy. Two of my paintings were selected for publication in the 2019 Vienna Town calendar.
