In the Community

Our Partners

Service helps us to build relationships with those in our community. Scripture teaches that if we want to experience God, if we want to serve him, if we want communion with him, then we need to be in relationship with the poor, the prisoner, the hungry, the sick.

In the community we partner with several unique organizations with the goal of investing in our community and sharing the love of Christ. Each of our partners has its own unique focus, and Holy Trinity is honored to have the opportunity to come alongside them as they pursue acts of justice and acts of mercy.

Graham Road Elementary

Holy Trinity supports the children, families, teachers and staff at our neighborhood school. Of the 460 students, 60% have limited English proficiency and 82% receive free or reduced price meals. HTLC members donate funds for gift cards to give recently arrived needy families. We deliver food from the nearby food pantry to the school, donate gently used children’s clothes, and school supplies. HTLC Knitting Ministry members make scarves, hats and mittens for children who’ve come from warm-weather climates and don’t have these items. Volunteers work with children learning English and assist teachers as needed. Volunteers also serve as interpreters during parent-teacher conferences and help the librarian with a variety of tasks.

Knox Food Pantry

Knox Presbyterian Church, located nearby, operates a food pantry that delivers food to those in need of emergency food assistance.  Holy Trinity continually collects donations for the food pantry, and Holy Trinity volunteers help maintain the food pantry and make food deliveries.

FACETS/Hypothermia Shelter Program

Holy Trinity is one of 19 churches that provide a week of overnight shelter and food to the homeless during the winter months.  During “Hypothermia Week” at Holy Trinity, an average of 50 guests each night are provided with snacks, dinner, breakfast, and a bag lunch, as well as sleeping accommodations in Fellowship Hall.  Clothing and gift cards also are made available to guests in need.  More than 100 volunteers typically support HT’s Hypothermia Week by setting up, preparing food, providing hospitality, and assisting professional staff from the FACETS program with managing and supervising the shelter.

Meals on Wheels

The Meals on Wheels program provides home-delivered meals to the homebound.  A team of Holy Trinity volunteers makes home deliveries each month.

Miriam’s Kitchen

Miriam’s Kitchen, based at Western Presbyterian Church in Washington, DC, is a large-scale ministry that feeds, counsels, and provides other services to homeless men, women, and children.  Holy Trinity members volunteer once a month to prepare and serve breakfast at the Kitchen, and work on its major fund-raising event.

Glories/Happy Hats

This ministry organizes teams of at-risk and other youths to make hats for hospitalized children. Holy Trinity provides storage space for materials and supplies and other support, and Holy Trinity members sit on the Happy Hats Board of Directors.
